Come FLY with us!
What is the WREN Project?
The WREN Project is flagship program at a flagship school.  NOTHING of this magnitude has ever been attempted in the field of wildlife
rehabilitation.  It is an exciting time in our field as we come together and push forward toward becoming a truly accepted and respected
professional field.
WREN is an acronym for WILDLIFE REHABILITATION EDUCATION NETWORK.  And it truly IS a network!  As new
wildlife centers join the project and more licensed rehabilitators become instructors, we truly begin working together on a level playing field
learning and teaching the same methods and developing resources and networks to support both the centers willing to  house the project and
rehabbers willing to learn and share the training techniques.  Support is the main focus of the NETWORK.  By developing a program that may
be adopted by existing wildlife centers and clinics, we are allow those centers and clinics to train their own new volunteers, employees and
instructors.  The program will bring in a new revenue source for each adoptive site and the site will begin building an infrastructure to support the
wildlife communities needs on a multifaceted level.  Most importantly, the WREN Project acts as a bridge between Wildlife Centers and
independent rehabbers giving the centers more availability of qualified resources and giving the independent rehabber an association with an
organization that is widely accepted by public and agency individuals.  This is a crucial part of the network.  Each wildlife center must be willing
to recruit independent rehabbers to go through the training program and ultimately run the BASICS program off-site.  Additional benefits of the
project include:

*  Additional resource for wildlife drop points through mentoring programs provided after training
*  Agency personnel can depend on the knowledge and professionalism of WREN Certified organizations
*  The General Public has abundant resource for wildlife information
*  Existing rehabbers have volunteer support through the Mentor Program attached to the BASICS class
*  Existing Wildlife Centers have a program that they can implement with very little cost and effort that will supply them with a solid infrastructure
with which they may take larger numbers of animals in and insure that they are being moved out, once stabilized,  to WREN Certified
rehabbers.

The Project
The project is a bit complex and cannot fully be laid out though a website.  If you are further interested, please fill out the inquiry below so that we
may send you further information.
The WREN project is a multi-faceted program of both education and support.  The home office is located at the Wildlife Center at Crosstimbers
Ranch in Terrell, Texas.  Likened to carbon paper, the proven program virtually lifts off it's base and overlays your existing location.  Our team
trains your trainers, our set-up crews assist in preparing your facility to undergo any required modifications to your center to house this project.
Our finance team helps procure funds to proceed in making any additions, and our admin team will arrive on-site when the center is prepared
and walk your staff through the first registration and several classes.  If you peruse the Wildlife Center at Crosstimbers Ranch, we are virtually
looking to set your center up in a similar manner with the same exact programs.  Certain requirements must be met to become a part of this
new future of rehab**. The financial investment will vary depending on what your facility already has to offer.  The WREN project is dedicated to
helping make other needed changes to include you in our network if you are truly interested.

The project benefits to a host center are:
* A support infrastructure of newly trained rehabilitators for your center
* A steady income stream to your center
* An association with a nationally accepted* education program which will increase your credibility and relationship with agencies
  and other wildlife professionals
* The opportunity for your center to support existing permitted independent rehabbers and bring them into the fold of professional
  rehabilitation.

The Program
The program is simple in theory, but complex in practice.  We would be happy to speak with you further about how this program will fit in to your
existing center.
Wildlife Centers, by virtue of the fact that they are viewed as professionals in the field because they are a " business" rather than an individual or
Independent, have a distinct advantage that is, often times, as big a disadvantage.  The advantage is that they become a "Hub" for local people
to bring orphaned, Injured, sick, displaced, confiscated, and other wild animals.  For some centers - this level of intake is no problem.    For
others, they receive more animals than they have room to care for, quarantine properly, feed, house, care for, fund,... and they turn to
independent rehabbers to pick up some of the slack.  For other areas, they may not yet have a center of developed network and the public
area must count on independents to help them.  The WREN project is wholly about bringing that independent rehabber into the fold of existing
centers to have that professional association and support that they so desperately need.  For the most part, Independent rehabbers are left to
fend for themselves while centers and agencies benefit from the larger donation pool available to those who practice rehab in a more
"traditionally accepted" way.  Sadly, most people do not understand the importance of the independent rehabber and the role that they play in
aiding agencies, centers, and the general public.  Without independents all over the country, effective wildlife rehabilitation would be
impossible.  The quarantine issues alone stress even the best run facilities.  Independents are the often an overused, unappreciated resource
that must find a voice in this movement to professional status.
Independent rehabbers make up approximately 60% of the volume of people handling wildlife. (agencies, law enforcement and centers
included)  Sadly, because they often do not share the identity of a center, they can be poorly conceived as inexperienced and amateur.  In truth,
independents are often as well taught and versed in rehabilitation and emergency care as any center director and in some cases more
experienced in working with wildlife than many vets.  It is no accident that these people work from their homes.  Until now, that has been their
only choice.  The program invites these consummate professionals to share their knowledge through an accepted venue under the guise of a
working facility, thereby offering experienced trainers who are paid BY a facility to teach their chosen profession to new individuals looking to
become part of this movement.  The facility wins because it is pulling from the experience in the field, thereby offering the finest education
program in it's area.  The independent wins because they are sharing their passion through a tried and true program and being PAID to share
their knowledge and experience.  States and Agencies win because there is suddenly a comprehensive program to which they may choose to
attach their permitting requirements.  The general public, and MOST important, the animals win because there are more well trained people
entering the field knowing what to expect and how to handle it.  Training the long-term, high-intensity, high-volume professional independent
rehabilitator is the goal of the WREN project.
The center, in turn, then develops a support network for new and permitted rehabilitators via food & supply banks, wildlife Hotline resources,
Grants, Scholarships and continuing education programs for rehabbers and agencies alike.  Sound like it's too complex?  That is where the
WREN team comes in and makes it easy.  Your commitment to the project is repaid by our commitment to walk you through, step by step with
an on-site facilitation team.  Once the program is in place and running, our team slowly pulls out and remain available for consultation and aid at
any time.

WHAT does WCCR get out of this?
Nothing.  This program was developed BY rehabbers FOR rehabbers and is run BY rehabbers.  It encompasses those already teaching
classes and those who have never even considered it.  It holds true to NWRA & IWRC standards and values.  It respects State law and policy.
The ONLY thing WCCR hopes to gain is a global respect for those who work so hard year after year caring for wild animals out of their own
pocket.  We hope to give them a way to support their efforts and allow them to gain some respect in the process.  Of course, ANYONE who has
dedicated themselves to wildlife rehab for even one season has our utmost respect!

Why do we need this program?  We can do this on our own.
Yes, you can, and you do not need us!  If you have the time and the money to develop an effective program, we thoroughly encourage it and will
support it by sending as many interested students as we can in your direction.  The WREN project is only a starting point.  ALL other education
programs will not simply be acknowledged, by attendance will be STRONGLY encouraged.  Please let us know what you have available and we
will add you to the list.  The WREN project is developed for those who want to offer an education program but to not have the financing,
manpower, or time to do it.  We will virtually set it up for you.  You will hire your staff to run it, but the program will pay for that staff and it will not
be a drain on your center.  Instead, fees associated with the basic and advanced courses will go directly to your center to aid with operations.

How can I learn more?
Fill out the form below.  You are NOT making any commitments at this time.  We will send you further information to peruse and a program
administrator will call you to discuss your facility to assess it's viability.  After that conversation, If you are still interested, and your facility seems
to meet the basic qualifications (which will be different from state to state) then you will be moved to phase #2.  During phase #2, you will be
asked to send photos of your center and short bio's of those working with you.  You will also be asked to identify at least to independent
rehabbers who will be interested in teaching courses and send their background and proof of current state rehab permit.  Phase #3 assess the
financial feasibility of your location.  This phase requires a visit from our operations team to do a thorough walk through so that the actual
development (Phase #4) may begin.  It is at this time where all final commitments will be made and signed.  The fifth and final phase begins
when we send in our set-up team, followed by our admin team.  Each set-up is expected to take 4-8 weeks.  From start to finish, we can virtually
have this program running AT YOUR FACILITY in about 6 months. ***

What if we don't have a Wildlife Center nearby?
Did you notice that there was NO Wildlife Center in Northeast Texas when this idea came to fruition?  NOTHING scares us!! Call us and we'll
see what we can come up with.  We are a network now ~ with LOTS of resources.  As we grow, there is NO TELLING what we can all do
together!
*National acceptance dependant on the first two years of operation.  WREN is currently still in development and seeking state by state acceptance with tremendous success to date.
** All potential WREN sites must be inspected by a WREN advisor prior to approval
*** Facilities in Texas will receive priority status through 2011.  All other facilities will be placed on a first come first serve basis.  As we grow, the project will move faster.
