The Wildlife Center
The Wildlife Center at Crosstimbers Ranch
A non-profit organization
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU BRING ANY ANIMAL TO THIS FACILITY
The Wildlife Center at Crosstimbers Ranch is located north of Terrell Texas, Roughly one hour east of Dallas Love Field. We are open BY APPOINTMENT ONLY for Native Species animal drop offs. Please DO NOT drive here to drop an animal off without calling us first. Certain species may need special attention or we may know someone who is closer to you that can help more quickly.
|
Hours of Operation
The Center is open from 7am until 7pm Seven Days a week, 365 days a year. The phone is answered from 6am-10pm daily.
Emergency situations will be assessed and after hours arrangements can be made if the situation is life threatening to either the
animal or the general public. If you reach a recording, please leave a message. Our phones are VERY busy during baby season and
we are often on another line. We WILL call you back. If you need immediate help, you may contact your local Game Warden or call
the DFW Wildlife Coalition Hotline for assistance. PLEASE visit their website before you bring an animals to us. Many animals may
be reunited with their parents or simply do not need to be admitted to a rehabilitation facility. The DFW Wildlife Coalition Website will
help you to determine whether the animal you have found truly need help.
What Animals Do We Help?
Currently, the Wildlife Center is working only with Native Texas Mammals. Future plans include working with birds, but at this time,
while the facility is still under construction, It is the Mammals who seem to need the most help. IF YOU HAVE FOUND A BIRD, you
may contact the DFW Wildlife Coalition Hotline, Rogers Wildlife, or the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center for help.
WCCR specializes in the hard to place and long term rehab animals. (Bobcats, Beaver, Deer, etc.) We offer multiple enclosures
suitable for every species found in the state of Texas. Our staff has many years of experience in many states in North America and
are highly trained and educated in the industry.
Are we a permitted facility?
Yes. WCCR has state permits and licenses that allow us to legally practice Wildlife Rehabilitation in the state of Texas. Licenses may
be obtained from Texas Parks & Wildlife permitting office. You will also find all of the qualifications for rehabilitation permits.
Welcome to the Wildlife Center at Crosstimbers Ranch! We are excited to be here to help the citizens of Texas! WCCR opened it's
doors in April of 2008, and quickly became the largest Wildlife Rehabilitation facility in all of north Texas. The Wildlife Center offers a
place for injured, orphaned, sick, displaced, unwanted, confiscated Native Texas Wild Mammals to come for care with the intent of
being returned back to the wild. We believe that ALL wild animals belong in their native lands. We occasionally get a call from
someone who has tried to raise a wild animal themselves. PLEASE, do not attempt this. As tempting as it is, it is highly illegal, and
creates damage in the animal that is often irreparable. We do not believe that any wild animal should EVER be kept as a pet, even
for a very short time. It is those animals that become the most dangerous to us. Animals raised by humans and around dogs and cats
become desensitized to the things that, in the wild, should scare them. They quickly learn to bluff, and then to be aggressive when they
know that you can BE bluffed. MOST animals who have been hand raised come to us because someone has been bitten or attacked,
or a pet has been killed by this wild animal. By law, any animal who has bitten a human must be quarantined. If they are suspect at all,
they must be euthanized and sent in for rabies testing. PLEASE do not do this to this animal. If you would like to raise a wild animal,
Feel free to take one of our classes or come and volunteer with us! We would love your help. Hand Raised animals are also most
expensive to care for because their stay is often extended while we teach them how to be wild again. If you have an older animal that
you would like us to work with, you may be required to make a donation to help feed it while it is in our care.
We care about our wildlife an appreciate it's wildness. Please be responsible and get any animal you find to your nearest rehabilitator
as soon as possible.

Turtles are often run over by cars and cracked or shattered. Recovery is a long term process in our turtle garden

Bobcats are very dangerous and carry zoonotic diseases. They can be ruined in a very few hours if they are handled and will have to be euthanized or placed in a sanctuary when they cannot be returned to the wild.
