VOLUNTEER TODAY!
The Wildlife Center at Crosstimbers Ranch
The Wildlife Center
Have you ever wanted to do something in your life that REALLY made a
difference?  Do you LOVE animals and appreciate our environment?  Are you
dependable and have dependable transportation?  Then PLEASE consider
us to teach you how to do the COOLEST job in the world!

WCCR Needs volunteers NOW!  We opened our doors in 2008 expecting to
have a sleepy wildlife center in the Terrell / Quinlan / Lake Tawakoni area.  To
our amazement, we became, in a few short months, the largest wildlife center
in Northeast Texas!  Since we were unprepared last year for the onslaught, we
never had TIME to train people to help!  This year, we are hoping to change
that!  Volunteers are being hired RIGHT NOW for the 2009 Spring Baby
Season.  WE NEED YOU!  Spend your FREE time in the country with us and
do the hardest job you'll ever love!

Who makes the ideal volunteer?
Almost anyone!  We have a variety of jobs for all kinds of folks!  Our greatest
need right now is for people able to clean, maintain and build cages, feed
wildlife, do administration work, and answer phones.  There is NEVER a day
without twenty jobs to be done.
The ideal volunteer can commit for the entire season, and can be scheduled
for at least two 4-hour shifts a week.

What are the requirements to apply?
Wildlife Rehabilitation can be EXTREMELY hard work.  You must meet
certain requirements for each position that interests you.  ON THE JOB
TRAINING is provided for ALL positions.

Standard Requirements:

You MUST be 18 years or older, or 16 and part of a High School affiliated
Community Service Program.

You MUST have dependable transportation

You must be able to commit to your shift as if it were a paying position.  A LOT
of animals will be counting on you!

What will I do?
Depending on where your interests lie, you may choose one, or several
different types of jobs.  The most common jobs are:

*  Feeding  & Cleaning Orphans    *  Feeding & Cleaning Adults
* Administration Assistance           *  Cage Maintenance & Construction
* Animal Transport                           *  Organize & Clean Kitchen & Clinic areas
*  Write News Articles & Letters     *  Blog for us
*  Assist in classes                           *  Do animal Intake reports (AIR's)
*  Landscape & Gardening              *  General Maintenance
...And MANY other types of jobs!
Is it dangerous?
Wildlife rehabilitation can be a very dangerous job.  You will be required to sign a waiver of responsibility and disclosure Statements, but Volunteers , AT NO TIME, will
ever be intentionally placed in harms way.  Volunteers will not touch any Predator or other dangerous animal at any time.  On the job training is provided to insure
everyone's safety.  Rules and regulations are STRICTLY enforced.  You will be expected to pay attention, do your job while you're here.  NO Horseplay will be tolerated.
We are a working wildlife center, not a zoo.  We are NOT open to the general public for tours or other functions.  Your job, even as a volunteer, must be taken VERY
seriously or people and animals could become injured.

Can I bring my kids?
No!  We often have people who want to volunteer but they have children to care for.  We DO NOT allow children or outside pets on the property at any time.  Again, as
stated above, this CAN BE a dangerous place and is certainly no place for a child.

What ARE the Dangers?
Wild animals who come into care are,... Well, WILD.  The are often injured or terrified.  WCCR's staff is WELL trained in handling these animals.   As a volunteer, you will
never be asked to touch any wild animal that would be considered dangerous
.  However, there are other dangers that lurk below the surface.  Wild animals carry
diseases and parasites that are considered dangerous and transferable to humans. (Zoonotic)  We take GREAT caution to prevent disease outbreaks within the facility.
Policies and procedures are in place to insure your safety and that of the animals in our care.  All policies are STRICTLY enforced because cross contamination issues
can become VERY serious VERY quickly.  The fastest way to lose your volunteer position at WCCR is to ignore these safety precautions.  Bites, scratches, fecal
contamination and cross contamination are at the TOP of our safety training.  If you follow our policy, you will enjoy your volunteer time while here at the ranch.

What else should I know?
We LOVE our Volunteers!  We often have BBQ's and other gatherings to celebrate a successful project, season, DAY.  We could not do what we do without you!  At this
time, WCCR is undergoing MASSIVE renovations to prepare for th opening of the new school.  Volunteers applying for the 2009 Spring Season will be working under
difficult conditions.  We do not yet have our Clinic or Offices built.  All work is currently done in a Butler Building or the current home on the property.  By this time next
year, we will offer the best of working conditions.  We ask you to make the commitment today and stick with us for several years to come!
Much of the work in Wildlife rehabilitation is terribly hard.
If you are interested in working with the animals, this is the HARDEST part of the work.  You will sweat, be
covered in mystery gunk, Get slimed on a regular basis, risk injury on metal caging or low hanging branches.  This is the HARDEST job you'll ever love!  Those of you
interested in working with animals MAY be required to obtain a sub-permit through us.
NO ANIMAL MAY LEAVE THIS PROPERTY WITHOUT A PERMIT.  We do not
foster wildlife out.  All animals are cared for on-site.  We may have as many as 300 babies at any given time during the busy season (May-August).  If you commit to
volunteer at WCCR, most of the work is HERE on-site.

Be a part of something REALLY BIG!  YOU can make a real difference!  Contact us today if you would like an application email or mailed to you by simply filling out the
form below.  Baby Season is around the corner.  WE NEED YOU!!  We NEED your friends, family, EVERYONE!  Please join us today and help these wild animals get
back to their native home in the wild!
