| Is it dangerous? Wildlife rehabilitation can be a very dangerous job. You will be required to sign a waiver of responsibility and disclosure Statements, but Volunteers , AT NO TIME, will ever be intentionally placed in harms way. Volunteers will not touch any Predator or other dangerous animal at any time. On the job training is provided to insure everyone's safety. Rules and regulations are STRICTLY enforced. You will be expected to pay attention, do your job while you're here. NO Horseplay will be tolerated. We are a working wildlife center, not a zoo. We are NOT open to the general public for tours or other functions. Your job, even as a volunteer, must be taken VERY seriously or people and animals could become injured. Can I bring my kids? No! We often have people who want to volunteer but they have children to care for. We DO NOT allow children or outside pets on the property at any time. Again, as stated above, this CAN BE a dangerous place and is certainly no place for a child. What ARE the Dangers? Wild animals who come into care are,... Well, WILD. The are often injured or terrified. WCCR's staff is WELL trained in handling these animals. As a volunteer, you will never be asked to touch any wild animal that would be considered dangerous. However, there are other dangers that lurk below the surface. Wild animals carry diseases and parasites that are considered dangerous and transferable to humans. (Zoonotic) We take GREAT caution to prevent disease outbreaks within the facility. Policies and procedures are in place to insure your safety and that of the animals in our care. All policies are STRICTLY enforced because cross contamination issues can become VERY serious VERY quickly. The fastest way to lose your volunteer position at WCCR is to ignore these safety precautions. Bites, scratches, fecal contamination and cross contamination are at the TOP of our safety training. If you follow our policy, you will enjoy your volunteer time while here at the ranch. What else should I know? We LOVE our Volunteers! We often have BBQ's and other gatherings to celebrate a successful project, season, DAY. We could not do what we do without you! At this time, WCCR is undergoing MASSIVE renovations to prepare for th opening of the new school. Volunteers applying for the 2009 Spring Season will be working under difficult conditions. We do not yet have our Clinic or Offices built. All work is currently done in a Butler Building or the current home on the property. By this time next year, we will offer the best of working conditions. We ask you to make the commitment today and stick with us for several years to come! Much of the work in Wildlife rehabilitation is terribly hard. If you are interested in working with the animals, this is the HARDEST part of the work. You will sweat, be covered in mystery gunk, Get slimed on a regular basis, risk injury on metal caging or low hanging branches. This is the HARDEST job you'll ever love! Those of you interested in working with animals MAY be required to obtain a sub-permit through us. NO ANIMAL MAY LEAVE THIS PROPERTY WITHOUT A PERMIT. We do not foster wildlife out. All animals are cared for on-site. We may have as many as 300 babies at any given time during the busy season (May-August). If you commit to volunteer at WCCR, most of the work is HERE on-site.
