We are excited to be here to assist the citizens of Texas! WCCR opened it's doors in 2008. Since then, we have quickly become the largest wildlife rehabilitation facility in the region. The wildlife center offers a place for orphaned, injured, displaced, unwanted, and confiscated wildlife to come in to heal, to grow, and to ultimately return to the wild. We believe that all wild animals belong in their native lands.
Occasionally, we receive calls from people who have tried to raise a wild animal by themselves. Please do not attempt this! As tempting as it is, it is highly illegal, and can not only cause irreparable health issues for that animal through improper diet and handling, but also creates some of the most dangerous animals for us to work with.
Wild animals that have been raised by humans, and live around family pets and children become desensitized to the things that should scare them in a wild environment. They quickly learn to bluff people, and learn to escalate to aggression very rapidly.
Usually, when we get these calls, it is because the wild animal they have been raising has attacked or killed a family pet, or attacked or bitten a human. Wild animals that have bitten people must be quarantined, and are most often euthanized, and tested for rabies. Please do not do that to an animal!
These animals are some of the most expensive for us to rehabilitate. They must suffer through an extended stay while we teach them to be wild again. If you have an older animal that you would like us to work with, we may ask that you make a donation to assist with its care. If you find a wild animal, please be responsible, and get it to a rehabilitator as soon as possible!
If you would like to raise a wild animal, feel free to come volunteer with us! We would love the help!
