Our Instructors
The Wildlife Center at Crosstimbers Ranch
A non-profit organization
Overview
The instructor's at Crosstimbers Ranch and for the WREN Project worldwide are chosen fro the finest certified
students and permitted rehabilitators from around the country. Each instructor is required to attend our entire
program and become certified in at each level. Once achieving certification at the Advanced Level, You may
apply to attend our "Train the Trainer's" course. There is no fee for this course, but there IS a substantial
commitment and you will be required to purchase your learning materials at our wholesale cost. (Book, CD &
training supplies) The training course is designed to teach effective and proven ways of keeping students
involved and interested without overwhelming them or scaring them with some of the in depth information that you
will be teaching. Since, by the time you begin the training course, you have already been though the courses, you
will already have a very good understanding of our expectations. THIS alone is the reason for requiring your
attendance in all of our courses.
The instructor's program has been designed to be taught by independent rehabilitators in an area that will
support an existing wildlife center. During the first few years of development, trainers will be carefully selected
from specific areas to take part in this program. Not all who apply for the training program will be
accepted! Your application must be accompanied by a letter from your local wildlife center indicating their
interest in having you help develop an infrastructure of independent well-trained rehabilitators that will support
their efforts in that particular part of the country. You must also supply a letter of reference from your game
warden indicating that you currently hold a valid rehabilitation permit and are considered an asset to the wildlife
community. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A WILDLIFE CENTER NEARBY, Your local wildlife permitting office can
direct you to their preferred wildlife resource (Animal Control, Local Zoo, Nature Center) and a letter from both
the Wildlife permitting office indicate which their preferred resource is AND a letter from That defined resource
indicating need for wildlife rehabilitation education in that given area will suffice. Independent WREN Instructors
will teach ONLY the BASICS classes. ALL advanced classes will be held at existing wildlife centers around the
nation. If you are interested in becoming an advanced instructor, please contact our main WCCR offices and
ask for the Personnel office. In the near future, these positions will be listed online.
When You have been accepted
Once accepted to our program, you will begin training at the nearest facility to you. If there is not a facility in your
state, you may come to WCCR and stay ON-SITE during your training period. Training will last two weeks. You
are investing in your future and becoming the future of wildlife Rehabilitation throughout the world. Once
accepted, you will, virtually work as an assistant trainer alongside current trainers while teaching both Basic and
Advanced classes. You will NOT be paid for this, but your room, board, and training will be at no cost to you.
Once you receive your certification as a WCCR WREN Instructor, you may take your knowledge, skill and ability
back you your home town and begin to develop, with our help, your own program.
What are the Program Requirements?
No WREN class may be taught in a private home. Although rehabilitation is often done in private homes, we are
a school and, as such, must meet certain expectations. Al classes must be held at an existing facility such as a
Nature Center, Private Science Based School, Library Meeting room, Wildlife Center or other environmentally
friendly facility. ALL FACILITIES MUST BE PRE-APPROVED BY THE WREN PROJECT COORDINATOR.
Once I have my Trainer Certification and a facility, what happens?
This is where the fun begins! You are now part of a NETWORK! You call the main WREN office and tell them
when you're ready to go! (We will really already know that, but it will be up to you to decide your start dates and
whether you will choose to provide your courses regular, extended, accelerated programs or all of the above.)
When you decide how you want your schedule to work (i.e. Saturdays only, evening classes) then you provide us
with that information. We will take it from there! Sit back and wait and watch the magic happen! WREN will
begin marketing the classes in your area and on their website. Each class will be limited to 14 students and will
require a minimum of Six. Once your class registration closes, we will contact you. All registrations will go
directly through the WREN office, materials and information will be sent to each student, including maps to the
class location and contact information for you. You will be sent a package with a class roster, sign is sheet,
completed certificates, books and class materials for each student, any additional information that you may need
to know and the first half of your paycheck! Upon completion of the class and filing of your paperwork, you will
receive the balance of your paycheck. You have access to the WREN office at ALL times. You are never alone,
and we will support you to the absolute extent we can offer. We WANT you to succeed. If YOU succeed, We
ALL succeed!
What will I be paid?
Your paycheck will depend on how many student you have in each class. On close of registration, we will be able
to give you an estimate, but roughly, for each full class you agree to teach, you will be compensated $600.
Should you decide to teach several classes at one time, and the need seems to be high, you will receive checks
Each time a class registration closes and each time final paperwork is turned in. These numbers can add up
FAST! It will be YOUR choice to work a full time schedule or simply teach one class a couple of times a year.
We will not press you to take on more than you have the ability to. If there is further need in your area, we may
encourage existing students in your classes to complete the advanced and trainer program to help out in that
given area.
MOST IMPORTANT!! If you are a working rehabber - we do not wish to take you away from your work! This
program is designed to help both the rehabber AND the centers. Upon completion of each basic class, your
students will be required to donate two years of volunteer time to one of several opportunities. If you rehab - you
may use these students AFTER THEY COMPLETE THE BASICS COURSE as mentee's and become their
Mentor. You can also assign them to other local independent rehabbers, centers, hotlines, or other wildlife
related organizations.
Disclaimer: WCCR and the WREN Project are Non-profit organizations. NO ONE will be financially
