F.A.Q.'s
What is a Beta Course?
A BETA Course is a "TRIAL" course.  Since this is WCCR's first year offering classes, Beta Students will
become a part of the final development of each class.  Beta Students will have very few differences in their
learning experience, but since this is a trial version, there are some things that will not be a part of the
initial Course Offering on 2110.

Beta Students will be responsible for purchasing their own books.   You will not NEED to buy the
books if you can find someone to share their copy.  However, ultimately, you will want to own the
       books chosen for this course.

Beta Students will be required to sign a photo release.  Both pictures and video will be shot
during each class.  Those pictures and/or videos may be used in teaching or marketing material in
       the future.

Beta Students will be asked to fill out a survey at the end of each class asking about what they did
or did not enjoy and if they have any suggestions.

Beta Students will receive the SAME course and syllabus.  As additions are made, Beta Students
       will take part in them.

Beta Students will have priority registration rights to all future classes.

Beta Students pay only HALF of the normal registration cost.

Beta Students do not qualify for scholarships, as none are available during this development period.

DO I have to take this course to get my permit?
NO!  Absolutely not!  Each state has certain requirements already in place for rehabilitators to become
permitted.
WCCR is NOT a permitting entity.  We are an educational facility dedicated to the
TEACHING of wildlife rehabilitation.  We do not make or change laws.  Our goal at WCCR is to offer
each state, Province, or country an accepted program of instruction that they may CHOOSE to use as
ONE of their permitting options.  We are in no way trying to replace other tried & true methods of
certification or permitting.  WCCR stands STRONGLY behind the belief that all education programs
hold value, and that no one program is the answer.  We strongly recommend, and for advanced
students, require, membership in both the NWRA and IWRC and encourage our students to seek out
any and ALL other forms of education available to them in their area.  Although "The WREN Project"
offers, to our knowledge, the MOST comprehensive rehabilitation education program in the United
States, it should, by no means, be considered your final education stop.  Wildlife rehabilitation changes
each year.  New techniques are developed, and ideas abound.  Because the field is going under
massive changes in it's effort to become a profession, rehab should be looked at as a journey with no
end.  Like any medical field, continuing education, mentoring, and networking is the key to success.
WCCR is a STARTING POINT for those who want to get solid footing and take rehabilitation seriously
enough to make it their profession.
Do I have to have a license or permit to be a Wildlife Rehabilitator?
Yes, All states have some permitting requirement to allow the general public to hold, house, or
rehabilitate wild animals.  Since each state is different, our program is designed to be compliant to the
NWRA and IWRC, accepted and respected programs available nationally and internationally.  Each state
will have slight to major differences in their permitting requirements, so as each student signs up for a
class at WCCR, our Parks & Wildlife Liaison will contact your permitting state to fully understand what
your state will expect and then be sure that you will meet all requirements PRIOR to your taking any course
here at WCCR.  Out of Country students will be handled similarly as the need arises.  We will assess your
country/province requirements to be sure that everything you get at WCCR is exactly what you want.
Do I have to take both the BASICS and ADVANCED courses to get my certification?
No.  There are many folks who simply want to be rehabbers on a small level and work with the high
volume species.
WE NEED YOU THE MOST!  WCCR Basics class is designed for people who can
commit working with these animals each and every year out of their homes, garages, sheds, and patio's.
WCCR teaches the most effective methods of caring for high volumes and learning understand and set
boundaries of what you can and cannot accept into your rescue. Our basics students are the foundation
of success for each infrastructure in each city we plan to develop.  Basic student will be taught to work
with squirrels, opossums, and rabbits.  The reason for choosing these three species is simple.

There are more of these three species admitted into rehabilitation than ALL other species combined.

These species do not carry NEAR as many Zoonotic or infectious diseases that other wild animals
carry, so the risk to you, your family, your pets, and your rescue is far limited when working with these
species.

Many people starting rehab want to work with orphaned animals.  MOST of the orphans who come
into rehab are going to required only BASIC care.  Most are healthy and simply need help while they
grow large enough to make it in the wild.  Some have been caught by cats and need minor care,
antibiotics, re-hydration etc.  Anything more serious can be transferred to someone in your network
that you will develop while in the classes and during your mentorship period.
Can I take the ADVANCED course online?
No.  The advanced course will NEVER be offered online.  The purpose of the advanced course is to
throw the student into the hands on high volume field of rehab.  It is, virtually, a crash course in
rehabilitation.  The things you will learn by actually working in the field can, in no way, ever be
matched in value by an on-line replacement.  As we grow, Advanced courses will be taught in other
areas around the nation, but at the moment, only the Flagship school in Texas offers the Advanced
course.

I already own the books that WCCR uses in it's classes.  Can I receive a discount?
No.  We are sorry, but except for the BETA classes (See above: What is a BETA Course?), all fees
include books.  The books used may or may not be a newer edition, and we all want to be, literally,
working on the same page.  We STRONGLY recommend that if you already own a version of the book(s)
that we use, that you give the vet you choose to work with, or another vet in the local area, the extra set of
books.  This is a WONDERFUL end of the year THANK YOU for their efforts on behalf of wildlife.
I've been a rehabber for 20 years.  Can I go straight to the advanced course?
No.
We HIGHLY respect all people who have been in the field for ANY length of time, however, the classes at
WCCR are developed to teach/refresh the basic skills and to DEVELOP NETWORKS as you go through
the program.  The other, more important reason is that WE WANT YOU!  If you are a working permitted
rehabber and you have attended both our Basics AND advanced courses, and you are approved through
our application process, you may be invited to our trainer course to further develop your skills and take our
program back to your area where WE WILL PAY YOU to teach what you have learned exactly as you
learned it here.  This is the lifeblood of our program and the reason it will, over time, develop a life of it's
own.
